Spy Museum, Berlin

This was the most enjoyable museum I had been to- it was like living a number of childhood fantasies. I had my Robert Langdon moment when I saw a Codex like in Da Vinci Code, an Alan Turin moment when I saw an Enigma machine, and a James Bond moment when I saw the James Bond movie costumes. But more than living out my books/movies fantasies, I had a lot of fun acting like a spy myself.

I was in disguise in the German Spy Museum xD

rBesides dressing up in disguise, I enjoyed decrypting secret messages, finding bugs in telephones and coats, dodging laser beams (I'm not joking, the Mission Impossible theme song was playing in my head while I was trying to dodge the lasers), writing messages in Morse code, and checking out spy gear

A glove-gun like this was used in the movie Inglorious Basterds

The Enigma Machine fascinated me- to think that the outcome of World War II hinged on cracking this incredibly difficult code, appropriately named Enigma

Female KGB operatives would conceal all manner of things- cameras, guns or poison darts in their lipsticks. I'm going to think twice before I borrow make-up from anyone :P

Signed by all the actors who played the role of James Bond *sigh*

Secret compartments in a game of travel chess :O

A poison-dart umbrella like this one was suspected of being used in the murder of Bulgarian playwright George Markov

The interesting phenomenon you experience after visiting this museum is that you start seeing everyday objects in a new light. For example, agents would hide secret documents for transfer in soap dispensers of trains (and I saw the very same soap dispenser I had seen in the museum on a train from Vienna to Budapest. I was vaguely disappointed to find only soap and no state secrets). It's a must visit for anyone who's always craved the excitement of being a secret agent!
